摘要
Background International research emphasizes the importance of physical surroundings in palliative care. The knowledge about physical surroundings in a Norwegian palliative care context is scarse. Purpose: To generate knowledge about the importance of the physical surroundings for family members' presence in palliative care units in nursing homes. Method: Qualitative design with photo-elicitation. Thematic analysis was based on Braun & Clarke, and McGann's concept of Hospice Space. Findings: Architecture and surroundings, in a complex interaction with staff, can promote and inhibit family members' presence and participation in palliative care units in the following ways: (1) being welcomed, (2) being able to continue everyday activities and participating in the care of the sick person, and (3) being able to take care of oneself. Conclusion: Family members' participant produced images and subsequent interviews provided knowledge about how designing palliative care units. Homeliness and everyday life for relatives is about practical arrangements so that the dying person can have their family around, for practical and emotional support.
