摘要
Two Late Byzantine inscriptions in the church of St. Philip,Ano Poula, InnerMani, offernew evidenceabout the Maniote practiceof giftingagricultural offeringsand even animalsto supportthe construction,decoration,and maintenance of village churches. The inscriptions - one carved and one painted - also demonstrate how families over man y generations alienatedpropertiesin order to supportlocal churchesand veneratedsaintsof regional import. The textsprovideinformation about networksof villages and familiesacrossMani,connecting communitieson the plateau of Ano Poula with villages at itsbase,and families acrossthe peninsula.
