摘要
Global Citizenship Education (GCE) has become a global educational purpose according to UNESCO guidelines; however, this does not mean that it has been approached from a transformative perspective. This study aims to identify those academic discourses that from 2016-2022 make a significant contribution to the construction of a transformative GCE in the international context and in Spain where the lack of these studies is evident. To this end, using the methodology of the PRISMA statement, a documentary search was carried out in the databases WoS, Scopus, and ERIC. After applying the selection criteria, the final sample consists of 35 articles. The results indicate, on the one hand, the tendency to reduce GCE to the formation of a competitive citizenship with a strong national identity. However, on the other hand, they identify the need for a transformative GCE that fosters an education committed to a citizenry capable of facing and taking responsibility for the serious humanitarian challenges posed. Finally, some suggestions are framed for future research to the formation of this indispensable global transformative citizenship.
