摘要
A compact RI sensor with a high sensitivity basedon LPFG is designed and experimentally confirmed. The pro-posed sensor is realized by splicing different fibers, whichgives it stable mechanical performance. The simulation resultsindicate that, at short lengths, a high sensitivity is achievedby optimizing the strength of the evanescent field. Consistentwith the simulation results, the sensor demonstrated a high RIsensitivity (>600 nm/RIU in 1.42) and a compact size (about2.7 mm) in the experiment. The temperature response of thesensor is 19 pm/degrees C at the range of 26-90 degrees C. The compact sizeand high RI sensitivity give this LPFG a competitive advantage invarious refractive index measurement engineering applications.
