Copper(II) Complexes Containing N, N′- Bidentate N-(Pyridin-2-ylmethyl) aniline and Its Derivatives: Synthesis, Structure and Magnetic Property

摘要
The reaction between [CuCl(2)2H(2)O] and N, N'-bidentate N-(pyridin-2-ylmethyl) aniline (L-a) and its derivatives (L-b and L-c) in methanol yielded new Cu(II) complexes; namely polynuclear [CuLaCl2](n), dinuclear [CuLb(mu-Cl) Cl](2), and mononuclear [CuLcCl2], respectively. Monomeric [CuLcCl2] showed a distorted square planar geometry around copper metal-based on X-ray crystallography. The polymeric [CuLaCl2](n) and dimeric [CuLb(mu-Cl)Cl](2) had a chloro-bridged five-coordinated and a distorted square pyramidal geometry around the Cu(II) center. The CuCu' distance was 3.915(1) A [CuLaCl2](n) and 3.928(1) A [CuLb(mu-Cl)Cl](2). Interestingly, magnetic susceptibility (chi) measurements of complexes [CuLaCl2](n) and [CuLb(mu-Cl)Cl](2) exhibited a weak antiferromagnetic interaction.
