Phenomenological study of teacher candidates' perceptions of learning achievement and learning difficulties

Difficulties in understanding the concept of learning quality by teacher candidates have an impact on their learning and teaching experiences. This study aims to find out through a metaphor how biology education teacher candidates dream of teaching in senior high school, to discuss the concepts of learning achievement and learning difficulties. This qualitative research has a research sample consisting of 153 students (38 in semester I; 40 in semester III; 45 in semester V; and 30 in semester VII) studying at the Biology Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. The research data was collected using a questionnaire that consisted of two questions and content analysis; (1) differences in the perception of teachers about concepts learning achievement variables; and (2) learning difficulties by students are determined by frequency analysis. Results of the study found that the metaphors produced by teacher candidates for learning achievement contained 7 themes; metaphor of learning difficulties 8 themes. It was concluded that each theme that emerged as a result of the analysis of teacher candidates in different semesters contained different perceptions of learning achievement and learning difficulties.
