No house without a garden. C.Th. Sørensen's collective housing landscape

C. Th. S & oslash;rensen was involved in the most important Danish collective social housing programs between the 1930s and 1950s, in which he aimed to design community gardens designed to complete the modern habitat program with outdoor public spaces. This article traces the landscape architect's thinking on public space design. It studies S & oslash;rensen's most outstanding collective gardens intending to highlight the design strategies employed that have consolidated them into areas of high environmental value that are still in force today. The text is structured in three approaches that depend on the free space that determines the layout of the collective housing. They analyze the garden program and the use of topography and vegetation to define a character, a clear spatial order, and the resources to reconcile the public and human scale.
