Perceived Quality of Hospital Services from the Perspective of Doctors and Patients: An Integrative Model

摘要
The objective of the article is to develop a conceptual model that jointly examines the perception of doctors and patients regarding the quality of services provided by public and private hospitals in Rio de Janeiro. We interviewed 61 doctors and 40 inpatients; the results indicated that the gap in the perceived quality of health services, according to the perception of doctors and patients, is a function of failures in the institution's infrastructure, in the relationship between doctors and patients, and in the access to services. Such gaps may impair the outcome of care delivered to patients. Este art & iacute;culo tiene por objetivo desarrollar un modelo conceptual que re & uacute;na la percepci & oacute;n tanto de m & eacute;dicos como de pacientes, con respecto a la calidad de los servicios prestados por los hospitales p & uacute;blicos y privados en R & iacute;o de Janeiro. Se entrevistaron 61 m & eacute;dicos y 40 pacientes hospitalizados y los resultados obtenidos indicaron que, de acuerdo con la percepci & oacute;n de m & eacute;dicos y pacientes, la brecha en la calidad percibida de los servicios de salud resulta de fallas en la infraestructura de la instituci & oacute;n, en la relaci & oacute;n entre m & eacute;dicos y pacientes y en el acceso a los servicios. Dichas brechas afectan el resultado de la atenci & oacute;n brindada a los pacientes. O objetivo do artigo & eacute; desenvolver um modelo conceitual que congregue a percep & ccedil;& atilde;o de m & eacute;dicos e pacientes quanto & agrave; qualidade dos servi & ccedil;os prestados por hospitais p & uacute;blicos e privados do Rio de Janeiro. Foram entrevistados 61 m & eacute;dicos e 40 pacientes internados e os resultados indicaram que a lacuna da qualidade percebida dos servi & ccedil;os de sa & uacute;de, de acordo com a percep & ccedil;& atilde;o de m & eacute;dicos e pacientes, & eacute; em fun & ccedil;& atilde;o de falhas na infraestrutura da institui & ccedil;& atilde;o, no relacionamento entre m & eacute;dicos e pacientes e no acesso aos servi & ccedil;os. Tais lacunas prejudicam o resultado do cuidado entregue aos pacientes.
