Approach to SARS-CoV2 infection in the elderly: case report

A little more than a year after the first descriptions of the new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and to date (30-01-2021), after 102.403.247 reported cases and more than a million deaths worldwide, it continues to be challenging to approach and manage of serious cases, especially that of the most vulnerable population: the elderly. We present a case of a previously functional 83 -year -old man with unmanaged comorbidities, with a clinical picture that rapidly evolved to respiratory failure, who was identified with a severe SARS-CoV-2 infection. Who, despite presenting multiple markers of poor prognosis and complications, manages to overcome the critical event. The case is approached from a Comprehensive geriatric assessment, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive management, including prevention strategies and early treatment.
