摘要
The production of masculinized batches of tilapia using the hormon 17 alpha-methyltestosterone (MT) is effective, however, this method of sexual control has an important cost in the larviculture phase, represented mainly by the use of ethyl alcohol as a diluent and vehicle for the hormone in the diet. Our main objective was to test if the use of soybean oil as a diluent and vehicle for MT in the diet is effective in the masculinization of Nile tilapia larvae. To this end, 4 treatments were evaluated: (1) use of 2% soybean oil per kg of diet to disperse MT in the diet in clear water system (HO/CW); (2) use of 2% soybean oil per kg of diet to disperse MT in the diet in a biofloc system (HO/BFT); (3) use of alcohol to disperse MT in the diet plus the subsequent addition of 2% oil to the diet in a biofloc system (HA + O/BFT), and (4) use of alcohol to disperse MT in the diet in a biofloc system (HA/BFT). The experimental unit was a tank of 150 L (useful volume) with 300 larvae (mean initial weight of 11 mg) and five replicates were used for each treatment, totalizing 20 experimental units. The masculinization rate was evaluated in two periods of hormone application, for 21 and 28 days. The masculinization rate, water quality variables, growth performance, survival rate, and body composition were evaluated. The masculinization proportions were similar (p > .05) among 21-day period treatments and were 89.44, 86.74, 80.94 and 93.60% for the HO/CW, HO/BFT, HA + O/BFT, HA/BFT, respectively. The median of male proportion in the treatments for 28 days were 100% for the HO/CW, HO/BFT, and HA/BFT, and 94% for the HA + O/BFT (p < .05). In general, water quality variables were within the recommended range for the species. No significant difference (p < .05) among the treatments was found for growth performance, survival rate and body composition. In conclusion, soybean oil is effective as a vehicle for distributing the hormone 17 alpha-methyltestosterone through the diet, providing satisfactory masculinization rate with the advantage of lower cost. The hormone application for 28 days is necessary to obtain masculinization rate above 94%. This is the first time that this comparison has been made in a biofloc system.
