摘要
Purpose of ReviewComplementary and alternative medicine (CAM), which comprises health practices outside of the scope of conventional medicine, is gaining popularity among patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). This review explores recent medical literature on CAMs commonly used in HS in order to equip dermatologists and other healthcare practitioners with knowledge of potential risks and benefits.Recent FindingsDiet-based CAM modalities are the most utilized among patients with HS globally, with specialized elimination diets and supplementation with zinc, vitamin D, vitamin B12, and turmeric especially popular. Patients also commonly follow practices such as yoga, tai chi, and acupuncture. Importantly, the mechanisms of action, efficacy, and safety profiles of these modalities have yet to be fully established.SummaryA wide range of CAM treatments are increasingly being adopted by patients with HS, but HS management guidelines do not currently endorse any of them. Clinicians should be aware of these practices in order to provide patients with appropriate guidance.
