Peacebuilding Through Music: Challenges, Debates, Choices and Lessons Learned

This article reveals the debates and challenges encountered in creating a proposal for continuous formation in peacebuilding through music in the Department of Social Work at the National University of Colombia. This training it was created as initiative of the lecturer who created the proposal -one of the authors of this article- who is both a musician and social worker. Equally, the entire teaching team responsible for rolling out the proposal is trained in one or both of these two professions. The article highlights how this dual characteristic of this educational proposal has led to a sound theoretical basis being established in aspects related to peace studies, psychosocial approaches and community action, as well as in critical analysis of musical praxis. Thus, has managed to bring together, explore and nurture the community disposition that music for peacebuilding has assumed in Colombia, supported by the social work theoretical-practical oeuvre.
