摘要
Auto-reclosing becomes more challenging in the case of mixed lines (combined overhead lines with submarine or underground cables). The reclosing after a fault is permitted for the faults in overhead line sections and disabled for the faults in the submarine/underground cable sections. In this work, traveling wave (TW) based faulted section identification (FSI) method using single ended data is proposed. FSI is accomplished by analyzing the first incident TW characteristics such as rise time, fall time and peak width. Identification of fault section is achieved by compared the calculated first traveling wave peak width with a threshold. Threshold value of TW width is obtained by conducting a practical experiment such as creating a fault at the junction. The proposed FSI method is verified using simulation experiments. The simulations are done using EMTDC software tool. The study reveals that the method accurately identifies the faulted section. The proposed FSI method is accurate, and dependable as it uses only incident traveling wave and does not need of the subsequent TW reflections.
