摘要
Human gut is colonised by diversified microbial flora that contribute different functional benefits. Sedentary life style and exponential use of commercial drugs leading to disbalance of the normal flora and there by encourages disease incidences. To restore the normal flora foods supplemented with probiotics are the preferred candidates. However, recent studies have found some limitations of probiotics in long term use with concomitant development of opportunistic infections. To combat such harmful consequences, a new formulation with added nutraceutical advantages called metabiotics are making their place in food and health science. Metabiotics have advantages over traditional probiotics due to their known chemical structure and more pronounced positive impacts. Recent trends are ongoing in the formulation of plant based new metabiotic components with immunoprotective potential through probiotic fermentation as plants are the reservoir of bioactive polyphenolic compounds. These metabolites will hopefully conquer the future market of antibiotics to make more healthier life.
