Structural variety of benzimidazole coordinated zinc(II) and cadmium(II) complexes with closo-decaborate anion

The features zinc(II) and cadmium(II) complexation with benzimidazole derivatives Bz 1 - CH =N - R 1 (L 1 ), Bz 1 - CH 2 - NH - R 1 (L 2 ) (Bz 1 is 1-methylbenzimidazole, R 1 is 4 - methoxyphenyl), and Bz 2 - N =CH - R 2 (L 3 ; Bz 2 is 1propylbenzimidazole, R 2 is phenol) in the presence of closo -decaborate anion has been studied. A number of new mixed ligand complexes with different coordination modes of the cluster anion have been obtained and structurally characterized: {Cd(L 1 ) 2 [B 10 H 10 -kappa 2 B1,B2]} center dot 2CH 3 CN and {Cd(L 2 ) 2 [B 10 H 10 -kappa 2 B2,B6]} with the [B 10 H 10 ] 2 - anion, coordinated by metal atom through the apical (B1B2) or equatorial (B2B6) edge of the boron cage, as well as the first examples of complexes {ZnL 2 (CH 3 CN)[B 10 H 10 -kappa 3 B1,B2,B3]}, {Zn(Bz 2 - NH 2 ) 2 (DMSO)[B 10 H 10 -kappa 3 B1, B2,B3]} center dot 3CH 3 CN, and {Cd(Bz 2 - NH 2 ) 2 (DMF)[B 10 H 10 -kappa 3 B1,B2,B3]} center dot 2CH 3 CN with facial (B1B2B3) coordination of the closo -decaborate anion. For the first time, theoretical IR spectra have been calculated for cadmium(II) complexes with the coordinated [B 10 H 10 ] 2 - anion.
