摘要
Action imagery is the mental process of imagining an action without actually performing it. Actions can be imagined from an internal and external perspective, but can also include kinesthetic aspects. It was assumed that physical activity and action experience are positively related to action imagery, but this could be mediated by the physical self-concept. To test this hypothesis, 285 participants assessed their physical self-concept and vividness of action imagery with the VMIQ-2 and their ease of action imagery with the MIQ-3. The results showed that participants with a high physical self-concept reported having higher imagery ability than those with a low physical self-concept. In turn, a higher physical self-concept was attributed to movement experience and physical activity. However, an action-specific one-off execution of the movement immediately before action imagery did not influence the rated imagery ability.
