摘要
Over the past few years, the significance of digital media has witnessed a substantial rise, not just in our daily lives but also in schools and classrooms. This trend became particularly evident during the COVID-19 pandemic, where digital media became the primary means of conducting lessons. Concurrently, the inability to carry out conventional face-to-face professional development activities for certain periods led to the emergence of innovative concepts for teacher professional development. In light of these advancements, this article explores two key areas: technology-related professional development for teachers, which aims to enhance their proficiency in utilizing digital media, and online professional development, conducted either synchronously or asynchronously through digital platforms. The first section encompasses a description of the demands associated with technology-related courses, along with empirical findings about the availability, use, and observed impacts of these offerings. The second section delves into the prospects and challenges associated with online professional development, following an analysis of various training formats. Additionally, this article compiles concepts and findings pertaining to the quality and effects of online professional development. As technological advancements continue to progress, this article serves as an interim synthesis of current research, while highlighting potential avenues for future development.
