摘要
Agricultural wastewater treatment and reuse are fundamental to sustainable water management, particularly in water-scarce regions. These practices are essential for mitigating risks and maximizing benefits in areas with limited water resources. Despite significant advancements in technology, several challenges remain, especially concerning the adoption of these technologies in rural communities within developing countries. This VSI focuses on sustainable solutions for agricultural wastewater treatment, highlighting the economic, environmental, and social benefits of effective management. At the same time, it addresses the associated risks, such as environmental contamination and public health hazards. Proper wastewater treatment is crucial, but it must be accompanied by stringent regulations, responsible agricultural practices, and sound public policies to minimize risks. Achieving a balance between the benefits of advanced wastewater treatment and the potential risks involves not only implementing appropriate technologies but also fostering collaborative efforts. Strengthening international partnerships and capacity building can help overcome barriers to adopting advanced treatment methods. These combined efforts are essential for ensuring sustainable water resource management, enhancing food security, and contributing to social and economic development. By addressing these challenges and leveraging technological advancements, we can advance toward more sustainable practices in agricultural wastewater management, ultimately supporting a more secure and resilient future.
