The incidence of violence can be a recurring issue in major metropolises, affecting urban spaces and leading to the withdrawal of the population. In this context, the creation of public policies to address this challenge becomes essential, and the implementation of public leisure spaces emerges as a viable alternative to attract people back to the streets and promote greater social interaction, which can improve the quality of life in communities. This article aimed to understand how the creation of the public leisure facility, Parque Urbano da Macaxeira, influenced the sense of security and social interaction of the residents of the Macaxeira neighborhood, Recife, State of Pernambuco [Brazil]. A quantitative approach was used, with the participation of 94 park visitors, to analyze the visitors' opinion regarding the infrastructure offered in the park and its influence on local social interaction. The results highlight the positive impacts of the creation of Parque da Macaxeira on the perception of security and quality of life in the community, emphasizing the importance of public leisure spaces in creating safer and more attractive urban environments.
