摘要
The aim of this paper is to offer a new interpretation of the law 116 found in the Code of Hammurabi through an analysis of the term ussusum . Assyriologists have provided different translations for this term: "maltreatments", "abuse", and "physical abuse". In this study, I propose that ussusum should be understood as "to torment". To achieve this aim, I will incorporate insights from the field of emotion studies. In recent years, emotion studies have sparked discussions regarding terms associated with emotions, providing new perspectives and enhancing our comprehension of Ancient Near Eastern societies.
