摘要：

Francisco Cazallas Hern & aacute;n was a young Spaniard, born in the town of Viso del Marqu & eacute;s (Ciudad Real), whose life was cut short by the Civil War. In 1938 he was mobilised by the Ej & eacute;rcito Popular (the Republic government's Army) at the age of 19 and joined the C & oacute;rdoba-Extremadura front. His experience was recorded in an unpublished memoir of 35 typewritten pages. This article analyses his life at the front and his feelings in a war for which he was not overly enthusiastic. It is an individual example that could well serve as a model for the experience of thousands of young Spaniards.
