Auswirkungen einer dreimonatigen standardisierten Rückentherapie auf den Faktor ,,Gesunde Lebensjahre" bei Rückenschmerzpatienten

Chronic diseases not only have significant socio-economic effects, but they also cause significant restrictions on the quality of life and thus on the number of healthy life years of patients. While there is consensus in the medical guidelines that exercise is an essential part of treatment options, tremendous efforts are needed at the motivational level to encourage patients to exercise regularly. A previously neglected aspect in health communication is the aspect of healthy life years i. e., number of remaining years that a person of a certain age is expected to live without disability. The present study therefore deals for the first time with the effects of a three-month back therapy on the factor of healthy life years. The calculation using mortality tables and data from 67,148 chronic back pain patients shows a clear effect of the therapy on the expected healthy life years. Thus, the therapy succeeds in enabling men to have an average of 14.70 additional healthy years of life and 15.73 for women. The expected gains are of course strongly age-dependent.
