Educational practices of single-parent female families with school-age children: case studies

The research addresses the issue of family educational practices, which have been modified in the face of the demands of a changing world, which is why new ways of guiding and directing children have emerged. This study contextualizes educational practices in single parent families headed by women, as this is a family typology on the rise in Cuba, with dynamics that imply significant challenges for female heads of household, who must reconcile the performance of their role with the education of their offspring. The results contribute to a characterization of educational practices in female single-parent families, where a wide heterogeneity underlies, manifested in diverse profiles of single-parenthood and systems of educational practices; which tend to configurations when intertwined with economic, psychological and cultural factors of the families. This makes it possible to orient the results of the research to social policies that help these families.
