On Execution at End Devices for Energy Detection Based Carrier Sense in LPWAN

摘要
This study investigates a scheme for the performance improvement of Sub-GHz band low power wide area networks (LPWANs) using an energy detection based carrier sense. The energy detection based carrier sense in the LPWAN has been theoretically analyzed. Although the carrier sense can improve several characteristics of the end devices, the energy consumption of the carrier sense is almost the same as that of the signal reception and cannot be ignored. In addition, the energy detection based carrier sense requires a long carrier sense period compared with the peak detection based carrier sense, which may further increase the energy consumption. Therefore, the performance improvement and energy consumption at the end devices must be jointly considered. Under these considerations, we propose an execution scheme of the energy detection based carrier sense at the end devices to improve the performance of poor conditioned end devices, that is, a large propagation loss to the gateway.
