Toimprovethecoldstartperformanceofgasolinecompressionignition(GCI)engines thespraydevelopmentandevaporationcharacteristicsofgasoline diethyletherandtheirblended fuel(withavolumefractionof10%-50%)underdifferentoperatingconditionswerestudiedby visualexperimentsandnumericalsimulation.Theresultsshowthatthenumericalsimulationisin goodagreementwiththeexperimentalresultsinspray macroscopicmorphologyandliquidphase cross-sectionarea.Thenumericalsimulationresultsshowthatasthediethylethermixingratio increases thespraytippenetrationdistanceandsprayconeangleslightlyincreasebyupto20% and10% respectively theparticlesizeofsprayslightlydecreases butthesprayevaporation significantlyincreases.Thefueldropletevaporationcharacteristicsexperimentsusingthesuspensionmethodhaveconfirmedthatdiethylethermixinghasacceleratedtheevaporationofblended fuel.Theevaporationrateofdiethyletherandallblendedfuelsincreasesfirstandthendecreases reachingthemaximumevaporationrateearlierthangasoline.Withtheincreaseofdiethylether mixingratio theevaporationrateoffuelsprayissignificantlyincreased.Basedontheexperimental andnumericalsimulationresults itisbelievedthatbymixingdiethylether theatomizationqualityof gasolinefuelcan beimproved whiletheevaporationrateoffuelspraycan besignificantly increased thusimprovingthequalityofmixtureformedinthecylinder andhelpingtoimprove thecoldstartperformanceoftheGCIengine. © 2023 Xi'an Jiaotong University.
