Research purposes: According to the relevant work arrangement of intelligent Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway and the general temporary technical specifications of ATO system of high-speed railway of China Railway, signal train control system increases the function requirements of automatic train operation (ATO) of EMU. All parties of the construction actively organized research and completed the ATO system design of Beijing-Zhangjiakou Railway. Research conclusions: (1)Based on the existing CTCS-3 train control system, the system scheme modifies device functions of CTC, TCC, TSRS, sets on-board ATO and ground dedicated precise positioning balise, adjusts the signal layout of existing stations and sections, in order to realize automatic ATO of EMU train. (2)The ATO function improves the information and intelligent level of train operation, which is the embodiment of intelligent Beijing-Zhangjiakou signal equipment. (3)The CTCS-3 + ATO signal system can provide reference for the design consultation of high-speed railway ATO signal system in the future. © 2021, Editorial Department of Journal of Railway Engineering Society.
