摘要
An innovative precast ultra-high performance concrete(UHPC) protection system for bridge pier against ship collision was proposed. This protection system is made of separate modular UHPC segments, which is connected by high-strength bolts. An in-depth analysis of performance evaluation of this protection system was conducted by the nonlinear finite-element analysis program ANSYS/LS-DYNA. The results show that this new protection system can protect the bridge piers and ships via significantly reducing the collision forces and effectively increasing the impact time of ship-bridge collision. The peak impact forces are reduced by 19.00%, 39.17% and 33.15%, and the impact durations are prolonged by 47.68%, 132.61% and 168.89% at different impact velocities of 1, 3 and 5 m/s, respectively. When the impact velocity is 5 m/s, the peak impact force is 31.1 MN without the protection system, which is higher than the design resistance of the bridge pier. However, if this new protection system is installed on the bridge pier, the peak impact force is 20.79 MN, which is reduced to non-destructive level. © 2019, Central South University Press.
