3D printing and electronics: Future trend in smart drug delivery devices

摘要
Smart drug delivery allows for on-demand drug release to patients and also targeted delivery of drug to specific sites of the patient. This helps improve the efficacy of drug treatment by controlling the concentration of the drug within the patient's circulatory system. By integrating electronics into such smart devices, these devices can be used for the delivery of specific drug regimen to individual patients while also monitoring their conditions. 3D printing allows for a high degree of customizability of the product being fabricated. This allows for the designing and fabrication of specific device designs which can better suit a patient's needs. By introducing electronics and 3D printing to smart drug delivery devices, the devices can gain more functionality and customizability. This paper gives a review of the application of 3D printing and electronics in smart drug delivery devices as well as possible future trends. © 2022
