Diagnostics and treatment of pelvic organ prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse is an important disorder of the female pelvic floor. As a result of the demographic developments in society the future needs regarding the growing challenges of both diagnostics and treatment will increase. A critical evaluation of symptoms combined with compartment-specific diagnostics is a key for the individualized creation of a treatment concept. By adaptation to very different needs of the patient, the treatment can preserve the uterus or fertility or can include hysterectomy. Different surgical approaches, such as vaginal or endoscopic surgery, complete the picture of an individualized interventional urogynecology. In this context it is crucial to balance the risks of using alloplastic materials, in order to enhance pelvic health in a sustainable way for patients.
