摘要
The release of untreated abattoir waste into the environment can perpetuate the spread of antibiotic resistant bacteria. This study on the co-incidence of extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs)-producing bacteria in abattoir wastes concerns 64 samples which were collected in Moniya and Akinyele abattoirs from July to August 2020. Resistant bacterial isolates were assessed for ESBL phenotype and genotype. Out of the 93 bacteria isolated, only Aeromonas sobria (n = 4) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (n = 3) were multidrug resistant. One isolate each of Providencia vermicola, P. rettgeri, Aeromonas sobria and A. veronii carried bla CTX-M gene, and one K. pneumoniae carried bla CTX-M/bla TEM. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
