The article presents the experience of working on the development of speech of foreign students on the material of the life and work of A. S. Grin. It is noted that the methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language should be associated with the acquaintance of foreign students with the cultural traditions of the country of their second language. It is emphasized that strengthening of the positions of the Russian language is of prime importance at the present time; therefore, the introduction of texts of works related to the regional component into classroom activities can enhance the interest of foreign students in Russian culture. Grin can be referred to the cultural code forming figures of not only Vyatka Region, but also of all Russia; therefore, the purpose of this article is to work out specific methods of teaching that would motivate foreign students to learn Russian and to study the Russian traditions and the history of the country and the region where they study. The article provides examples of pretext, text and post -text work with the writer's literary creations, gives an example of the textual material of a presentation, and contains a detailed description of the logic of classes based on Grin's story "The Toy" associated with the realities of the places where the famous science fiction writer lived. The author makes a conclusion that the use of Grin's works in classes with foreign students does not only help the teacher solve practical problems of language teaching, but also consolidates systemic knowledge of the national cultural and linguistic values of the Russian people. The article may be of interest to university teachers working with foreign students and to school teachers when studying the creative activity of Grin.
