摘要：

This study aims to understand how black quota students perceive the importance of affirmative action and the Ethnic-Racial Heteroidentification Commission at a public university. Descriptive/qualitative research was carried out, and the analysis technique was applied: discourse narrative. The epistemology adopted was Critical Racial Theory. Four black quota students from the Federal University of Minas Gerais participated in the study. The students' narratives reinforced the importance of affirmative actions and the Heteroidentification Commission; however, the interviewees did not fail to highlight the obstacles that still exist to black people's inclusion in higher education and signaled possible strategies for overcoming this scenario.
