Assessing the Impacts of Energy Storage Systems on the Transmission System Expansion Planning with a Quasi-Static Time Series Approach

摘要
The integration of distributed energy resources and variable renewable energy sources often requires energy storage systems (ESS). Some studies have used quasi-static time series (QSTS) simulations to evaluate the effects of ESS on the distribution system. However, this approach is not used on the transmission system (TS). This work proposes to analyze the impacts of ESS in the expansion planning of a decarbonized TS. Indeed, a management system capable of controlling multiple ESS aggregations is developed and integrated with QSTS simulations. Two scenarios are simulated for the week with the highest peak demand on the Hydro-Qu ' ebec transmission grid: a base case with large scale deployment of distributed photovoltaic production (3 GW) and 1 million electric vehicles (1.5 GW), and a case with the addition of ESS. Finally, the impacts on the import/export opportunities, the demand response, and the power transit on transmission lines are discussed.
