To obtain a comprehensive overview about the current status and future development of cloud manufacturing, the research results of the cloud manufacturing system were summarized based on the resource flow in the operation process. Specifically, bibliometrics and citation analysis were combined to undertake both quantitative and qualitative analysis of the literature researched from Web of Science and China National Knowledge Infrastructure. Firstly, the theoretical foundation of cloud manufacturing was discussed, and then the current status of research on the resource servitization and the resource configuration in the flow of resources were analyzed. In view of the deficiencies identified in the analysis, the application of cutting edge technologies, the challenges faced by the current research, and the prospect of cloud manufacturing were further discussed. © 2022, Editorial Board of Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
