The heat treatment of work rolls is a critical process step in which large internal stresses can occur due to the different thermophysical properties of the used materials. The aim of this work was to create a parameterized FE model to test new materials and heat treatment routes safely. This work presents the experimental preliminary work, the setup, and the validation of the simulation model with regard to the heat conduction simulation as well as the estimation of the stress development by the mechanical simulation. © 2019, Austrian Society for Metallurgy of Metals (ASMET) and Bergmännischer Verband Österreich (BVÖ).
