The high-speed freight EMU is being developed in China. The raising speed of the freight train will inevitably affect the vibration of the vehicles. The original model which ignore the vehicle-containers coupling is no longer suitable for the operation of high speed freight EMU. To solve this problem, the dynamic model considering the above coupling relationship in the train is established. Based on this model, the vibration responses of the carbody and the containers under different speeds are studied. What’s more, the similarities and differences of the system vibration characteristics are compared for the cases whether the coupling relationship is considered. It also gets the time domain characteristics and the frequency domain characteristics counterpart of the lateral acceleration and yaw angle acceleration of the containers, the bogie and the carbody. It is shown that analyzing the dynamic of the freight train with the speed over 200 km/h should consider the mechanical coupling between carbody and the containers. The characteristics such as the increasing amplitude and vibrational energy of carbody, the higher lateral vibration of the container at the end of the carbody in some frequency bands caused by containers’ vibration can be reflected. © 2019 Journal of Mechanical Engineering.
