Effect of brace sections on seismic performance of concentrically braced frames

摘要
Concentrically braced frames (CBF) are the types of frames used effectively to carry lateral loads. These frames transfer horizontal loads with braces and their rigidity are quite high compared to moment resisting frames. Therefore, it is typically used in earthquake zones. In this study 3, 5 and 8 storey inverted -V braced frames are considered in order to examine the seismic behavior of brace sections. The brace members of the frames are designed using three different cross-section types as I, box and pipe sections. A total of nine parameters, three different storey and three different braces sections, were used. Accordingly, nine CBFs were designed and time history and static pushover analyzes were performed. seismic performances of the frames were evaluated with findings. It can be said that the most advantageous brace section type is pipe, box and I section, respectively.
