The Pingdingshan mining area is one of the typical deep mining areas in China, and most of the soft rock roadways in the area face the difficult problems of easy failure of support structure and con⁃ tinuous deformation control, which bring serious challenges to mine safety production. In this paper, based on the engineering and geological conditions of the return air rise in the WU.1 mining area of Pingmei No. 1 Mine, the creep characteristics of the surrounding rock (sandy mudstone) under triaxial stress are clari⁃ fied, combined with numerical simulation, the creep damage mechanism of soft rock roadway is revealed, and the deep soft rock roadway creep control countermeasures are proposed and tested industrially. The re⁃ search results show that the high stress level of the surrounding rock and the large strain on the top plate and the two bottom angles are the main reasons for the creep damage of the roadway. At the same time, the surrounding rock is weak and broken, and the strong admissibility has intensified the degree of destruc⁃ tion of the surrounding rock, resulting in part of the support structure can not play its proper role, and the roadway produces large deformation, which leads to the failure of the anchor rods and other structures, and the damage to the roadway is even more drastic. Based on this, the countermeasures of creep control and reinforcement scheme for deep soft rock roadway in stages and levels are put forward and industrial tests are conducted, and the effect of surrounding rock control is remarkable. © 2023 China University of Mining and Technology.
