The hybrid carrier (HC) system attracts attention as a fusion of the single carrier system and the multi-carrier system. In this article, we propose an extended hybrid carrier (EHC) system to ensure the reliability of wireless communication. The proposed scheme extends the framework of the HC system and provides robust bit error rate performance over the doubly-selective channels, which is considered a potential waveform for high-mobility scenarios. As an improved hybrid carrier system, the proposed scheme constructs the extended weighted fractional Fourier transform through multi-component extension and designs an orthogonal power layered multiplexing model. Additionally, the generic block modulation framework is adopted, offering design flexibility and compatibility. Besides, we discuss the low-complexity implementation and detection of the proposed scheme and derive the input-output relationship. The performance of the EHC system is analyzed under different conditions, and the simulations are given to demonstrate its feasibility and superiority. Retaining the advantages of the HC framework, the proposed scheme optimizes the energy distribution of the signals and achieves a more uniform residual interference distribution, resulting in superior interference suppression. The research results indicate that, compared with the existing HC schemes, the proposed EHC scheme shows significant improvement in the combined performance and meets the requirements of next-generation communications better.
