摘要
Background: Sudden and major constraints in nursing education might challenge professional identity formation. Aim: To explore nursing students' experiences during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, and to gain knowledge of how professional identity formation can be influenced by constrained educational pathways. Methods: A qualitative study involving individual interviews of eight nursing students. Data were analysed using systematic text condensation inspired by Malterud. Findings: Three main codes were identified: Contradictions; between being a student and a part-time worker; between quick-and-easy and in-depth learning; between being a professional and private person. Conclusion: The students developed a strong sense of professional identity. They strived to balance between competence-building and being useful co-workers. However, they did not regret becoming nurses. New ways to master the clinical placement are not one-sided negative. The findings add evidence to the importance of personal, social, and professional preparation for constrained educational pathways.
