Effect of lanthanide doping on the structure, morphology, and magnetic properties of strontium ferrites

This research delved into the structural, morphological, and magnetic characteristics of rare earth doped strontium ferrites (SrRE x Fe 12-x O 19 ( x = 0.05 - 0.2, RE = La, Sm, Eu, Dy, Er, Lu)) synthesized via the sol-gel method. The dopant ion radius is correlated with the performance of the material to a certain extent. Barium and calcium doping and related iron deficiency state experiments were designed to substantiate the reciprocal dependence between ion radius and coercivity. X-ray diffraction results revealed that doping ions had the capacity to modify lattice dimensions. The lattice size does not exhibit a clear linear relationship with the radius of the doping ion, nor does it inherently correlate with the grain size. The scanning electron microscope demonstrated that ion doping had the capacity to influence the size of grains. A general consequence of rare earth doping is the reduction in the saturation magnetization of strontium ferrites. The lanthanide contraction effect significantly influences the changes in coercivity. It is noteworthy that the variations in lattice internal space induced by doping constitute a primary driving factor for the observed coercivity dependence on the radius of the doping ion.
