TREATMENT OF ACUTE APPENDICITIS IN CHILDREN WITH COMBINED TRADITIONAL CHINESE AND WESTERN MEDICINE

<正> This paper presents the indicationsfor combined traditional Chinese and west-ern medical treatment of acute appendi-citis in children,which were developed onthe basis of clinical and pathologic studyof more than 8,000 cases seen in our hos-pital during the past 20 years.To verify the effectiveness of the treatment, 650cases treated in Peking Children's Hospitaland Tientsin Children's Hospital during1975-1976, are reviewed.Among them,37.6% were successfully treated withoutoperation.The case fatality rate was0.15% and the recurrence rate 1%.Adop-tion of combined methods of treatment haspromoted diagnostic accuracy and thera-peutic efficacy.Successful non-operativetreatment of late cases of appendicitis andtheir complications has enriched the doc-tor's armamentarium with alternativemethods in handling appendicitis.
