City is an organism formed by economic and social development resources in a certain spatial structure and social labor division.In contemporary world,cities are facing a variety of problems which have restricted urban development.Under this circumstance,urban renewal has become a tendency and an unavoidable measure to cope with the urban problems.In China,loose political environment and rapid economic development in recent decade have provided good opportunities for urban renewal,whereas the unprecedented expansion have brought about large amount of problems which directly affected the achievement of sustainable urban renewal and social stability.Thus,regenerative sustainability,as a new worldview for urban renewal which enables us to have a better understanding of the system,should be introduced into urban renewal projects.This paper presents Kuanzhai Alley in Chengdu China as a practice of regenerative sustainable urban renewal,and explores how it develop renewal strategies in conducting an overall consideration of all factors in the system with a systematic thinking.
