CHRONOMETERS, LIGHT AND THE TRANSFORMATION OF SPACE-TIME COORDINATES

In this paper we obtain the relativistic transformation equations for length and time, based on the fact that the measurement of a space or time interval must be expressed by two factors: value and units of measurement. A technique of double subscript allows to distinguish between the reference system in which the measurement is made and the reference system to which the measurement is referred. The transformation on the units of measurement when the inertial frame is changed produces the well known modification on the measured space-time magnitudes. By using the same analysis one obtains the relativistic velocity transformation.
