PATHOLOGICAL STUDIES ON BONE MARROW IN EQUINE INFECTIOUS ANEMIA .I. MACROSCOPICAL FINDINGS ON WHOLE LONGITUDINAL SECTIONS OF BONE MARROW

Gross observation, by use of a magnifier, was made on whole longitudinal sections of the bone marrow of the 2nd cervical vertebra, 10 thoracic vertebra, sacrum, sternum, rib, and femur in 3 healthy horses and 16 horses artificially infected with anemia. The results were described according to the type of disease. The cellular marrow increased in density and extent in the anemia-infected horses. This was observed already in the early stage of disease. Furthermore, it was indicated and discussed that the situation of increasing varied in the cellular marrow according to the severity and the course of disease. Hemorrhage was not considered as main lesion of the bone marrow in equine infectious anemia.
