The third steelmakers' congress was held in April 1995 in Moscow, Participating in the congress's work were 253 representatives of 102 organizations from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, and Georgia, and also company representatives from Germany, Austria, Italy, and Rumania. In the process of the congress's work, plenary sessions were conducted, and sections worked on converter production, electric steelmaking, treatment of pig iron and steel outside the furnace, and steel casting. The managers of enterprises gave reports to a joint session of the sections on questions of the development of enterprises and reconstruction of shops and plants, and also reports of a general nature. In all, 135 reports and communications were presented and discussed. Questions of improving the technology, raising the quality of steel, reducing material and energy expenditures, improving environmental protection, creating new refractories, and providing steelmaking with scrap were considered. Reports on the three best works were recognized with prizes and diplomas from the Association of Steelmakers. The present article gives the contents of reports at the plenary sessions and the sections' joint session.
