摘要
We investigate different configurations of Rh on Ag(001) to calculate the magnetic moment per atom in comparison with a free standing monolayer and bulk rhodium. Adsorbed layers, mixed layers, coated layers and islands are considered. The dependence of the magnetic moment is calculated with respect to the exchange integral J in a self-consistent tight-binding calculation with spin-independent hopping integrals but spin-dependent diagonal terms. The calculations were done with the recursion method using a real-space or a k-space basis. The value of J, for which we find the onset of magnetism, increases with increasing number of Rh neighbours of a Rh atom. Also in a mixed Rh0.50Ag0.50 layer magnetism is destroyed due to a shift of the Fermi energy with respect to the peaks in the d-state density of states of rhodium.
