摘要
The microstructural characteristics of Ti-54a/oAl and Ti-48a/oAl-2a/oW were investigated by optical and scanning electron microscopy in order to elucidate the microstructural evolution occurring during powder manufacture. Both powder compositions were consolidated by HIPing in the temperature range 1025 to 1250-degrees-C and the consolidated microstructures and hardness evaluated. The results show that a HIP temperature > 1100-degrees-C is necessary to eliminate all porosity. The HIPed compacts exhibit a non-uniform grain size which is associated with a varying volume fraction of dendrite regions in the powder. The hardness of the binary alloy is less than that of the ternary alloy. The hardness of both alloys decreases with increasing HIPing temperature.
