COMPUTER-SIMULATION OF PARTICLE STRATIFICATION IN A 2-DIMENSIONAL BATCH JIG

摘要
A computer simulation of a two dimensional batch jig has been developed involving solution of the equations of motion for individual particles within the jig bed. Simplified hydrodynamic forces as well as the effects of intermittent and continuous particle contact were modelled. The stratification of a bed of 200 five centimetre diameter spherical 'raw coal' particles was simulated for five different jigging cycles. Examination of the rate of change of bed potential energy for these cycles enabled the most efficient one to be found and its water velocity and frequency optimised. Results from the simulation also suggest that stratification occurs during the suction stroke.
