摘要
TE-TM mode conversion based on nonreciprocal Faraday effect has been studied for waveguides fabricated by liquid phase epitaxially grown (YBiCa)3Fe5O12 films (abbreviated as BiCa: YIG). The phase mismatch is controlled by constructing a double-layered channel waveguide with an intermediate cladding layer of refractive index slightly lower than the core. Care must be taken to compensate any birefringence of materials, e.g., stress- and growth-induced birefringence. It is shown that such a structure is effective in decreasing the effect of waveguide shape deformation on the phase-matching degree. The analysis and experiment of the double-layered channel waveguide are described. © 1990, IEEE
